I'm riding through this neighborhood today on my mountian bike. I'm tired and sucking wind as usual trying my best to still go fast. I hear this "click-click" noise behind me. I turn around to see a guy in one of those "racing type" wheelchair bikes behind me. Being out of shape like I am he passes me with ease.
All I could think was, "Damn, that's a bad MOFO." His arms kept going and going and going. I don't think I saw his stop the whole time he was in my sight. He left me in the dust.

Props to the wheelchair guy....

They run a local marathon right by our university. I saw one of these guys going down the road...FAST. Impressive.

Keep on training, and one day, when you see the wheelchair guy again, be sure to pass him. Then go brag to all of your friends how you "whipped the wheelchair guy's a__!" WOOO!

OH wait, I thought u were talking about a bent.. heh.
Yeah those guys can really go, they sit low enough to have all the aerodynamic advantages of a bent. During the last big ride I did, I saw a group of 8 people with hand cycles fully decked out with zipp carbon wheels.

This reminds me of the time I was running on the beach and got chased down by a dog with 3 legs...

That analogy is so wrong on so many levels

I was once passed by a wheelchair on the way home. When I caught up to him his speed was 36 km/hr.

aww, gee that reminds me of the time that pig with two legs passed me--up a hill. The owners said he was such a nice one that they just couldn't eat him all at once. . .

If my legs get cut off in a horrific crash, I can still look forward to riding with a wheelchair bike. I would probably ride the racing wheelchair everywhere, it would be like riding 24 hours a day.

There's a guy who rides one on my favorite route. It's a red four-wheeler that looks similar to a recumbent. It is powered by a hand crank.

He doesn't outrun me, but he's still pretty fast and he covers a lot of distance. Whenever I see him, I give him the thumbs-up and tell him to rock on.

The way I see it, if his legs worked, he'd be using me. As it is, he's still pretty darned tough.
