Disc brake observations.

I had a 29'er Mongoose that had Zoom 3 ball bearing disc brake calipers front and rear. Had OEM organic pads I'm assuming because they were dead silent.

Did not like the stopping power on pavement of the front wheel, so installed a 203 adapter and 203 disc using the same old Zoom caliper.

Suddenly I was able to do stoppies on the bike. Even have a pic of me doing one. The 203 disc really gave leverage to the Zoom caliper and stopping power went through the roof.

Fast foward a few years. The 29'er Mongoose was sold, but I ended up with the same front wheel and Zoom caliper. So I put the 29 wheel on a bike with the Zoom, and the original 160 disc. Went to do a stoppie, and nothing. The brakes just don't have the stopping power.

So, I'm guessing, that the larger 203 disc gave that same old cheap-o Zoom caliper the leverage it needed to haul the bike down and do stoppies.

Sound right to you folks?
