A bike that I have only heard of

I found a bike that I have only heard of yeasterday.it was called a super sherpa.it had the center pull brakes and a decent set of tires (I was on the job so I really could not spend a lot of time looking at it.)
does any one know about these bikes?they were asking $79.95 for it.unfortunatly I don't know if that is good or bad.I think that is a good price for it but what do you all think?

I haven't heard of it, but a word of caution on Xmart bikes. I'm sure you'll get roasted by people who despise such bikes, but that may be xtreme. From experience I can say they will not work for everyone -- I killed off 3 such bikes over the past three years. Any serious malfunction or mechanical failure and the parts (if you can find them) will cost enough to make replacing the bike easier and not much more expensive.

I think they have their place for casual riders who are not very heavy (say under 200 lbs.) and who are not trying to do significant distances or rough off road biking. If you are a heavier (or a very tall rider) sizing of frame may be an issue and the heavier you are the more likely you are to damage wheelsets. The same is true if you ride off road or jump curbs, etc.

So, with the above conditions in mind, if you're looking for something cheap to run errands around town or a couple of miles of commuting then they can be a good deal. Otherwise start looking at used bikes or even some of the hybrids that may be a better place to spend your money.

Before I got serious, I went through a string of those bikes (not super sherpas, but it doesn't matter) I was "consuming" them at rate of about 1 per 3 months. Those bikes aren't worth fixing, so after you've broken some spokes, stripped the handlebar nut, (or whatever it's called) broken a pedal completely off, etc, you're better off buying a new one. I did all those things and more. Furthermore, they ride like wheelbarrows filled with scrap metal.

Run away.

If you ride alot you will get stronger and then you find out why people here hate Xmart bikes, for casual use and kids (mine have 1 Xmart bike each and they work fine with a little tweaking) they are fine but if you plan to do many miles you will have to replace it fairly fast.
I totally wore one out in about 3 months, this was with constant adjustment to keep it working, wore out the bottom bracket,2 sets of pedals, rear derailier (became impossible to keep shifting reliably) the der was the worst as I got stronger the der would flex under load at take off thus throwing the chain usually at busy intersections.
I was riding about 20klm a night 6 nights a week at that stage.

No I do not work at walmart.it was at a second hand store and I was just wondering about it cause I hadn't ever seen one but I had read some small blurbs about them or so I thought.I know that they are not a high end bike like an orbea or a bianchi but it did have 3 piece cranks and the center pull brakes.
I sell parts to people who drive cars (that ought to throw a bunch of you into a tizzy) and yes I do have a mart bike that has performed fine for over a year.I would like to upgrade to something better and I am looking.(jelous cause the 8yr old daughter is riding a trek)probly going to be a Giant or a Raliegh.
I am still kicking around getting a road bike and keeping the mart special for when the family goes riding.(yes we do ride as a family)or I am going to get anouther mtn bike.(again a Giant or a Raliegh)I just haven't made up my mind yet.
have fun riding and stay out of the way of cagers.(they cannot see you)
