So I'm thinking it might be time to repaint my aluminum frame.
I have the paint stripper (pretty cheap at the hardware store).
I was thinking about just picking up some Krylon and spraying it, anyone have experiance with this or any reccomendations?

Your finished product will never be better than your surface preperation and the finished quality will depend to a degree on the materials that you use. I've painted several bike frames with rattle can paints. My favorite trick is using satin black paint on as smooth a surface as you can manage. It's not flashy and it won't rival a factory paint job, but it's relatively quick and cheap, I can do it myself and it doesn't scream "Home paint job" either.

Krylon-No Runs No Drips No Gloss
Whenever I've used Krylon on anything, most of the gloss seemed to stay in the can. You may have better luck with Duplicolor auto touch up in cans.

I have previous (years ago) auto painting experience but I have painted a few bicycle frames with spray can paint. For best results, once you get the frame stripped down and cleaned up properly, use a good quality primer and spray on 3-4 coats.

If you are looking for a super smooth and shiny professional finish/look, very lightly colour sand between each coat, but be careful as the primer is thin and it will not take too much to sand through it.

One this is done, use a good quality spray paint (I prefer Lacquer) and apply a min of 3-4 coats. Finish off with a couple coats of clear coating if you so wish.

Do a Google search for more info on color sanding...most articles apply to cars, but the principles are the same.

hi there , My name is Ecaynot and painting a frame is fun to do that is if you want / will spend time on it . I use'd paint(can) from home depot.ok lets get started....after you strip the frame wash of with water, if u can't strip the whole thing use sandpaper rough, then wash clean with water for now, u then use a very fine sandpaper untill it is soft like a babies bottom.yes u must prime, sand if needed if can paint that is fine,once it drys u can use that super fine paper, then u MUST put clear coat on it to protect it.of cause sand very super fine paper if needed. I once painted my yellow once it dryed I held a lighter under the frame it gave a smokie look. then of cause clear coat.
