okay... here's the plan...

submit your designs for the still-theoretical bf jersey project. a short list of no more than four designs will be selected by a jury of bf notables consisiting of koffee brown, lotek, ocp god 55/rad, joe [who runs the joint], msvicki, an australian, a canadian, a euro and an mtber to be named later [i'm open to suggestions]. we will then vote on the designs.

i realize that this is will come as a surprise to the jurors, but i figured that someone should get the ball rolling and, since i sometimes wear red shorts with a blue jersey, i should not be allowed to sit on the jury.

the design must follow these guidelines:

1. it must use only two colours in addition to white. this is for cost considerations.
2. it must be equally suitable for road and mtb downhill and bmx jerseys.
3. it must include a design for roadie shorts.
4. it must be completed and uploaded to this thread no later than july 8, 2005. the jury will deliberate for three days, and then a final poll will be held for four days.

the winner will receive a free bf jersey -- subsidized by all of us -- when we get these made.

please pm me nominations for the australian, canadian, euro and mtb members of the jury.

Darn. I had already started working on one before I read "must be suitable for road, mtb ,etc."
Guess I won't finish it but here's what it looked like.

It can be waht ever design, then ti can always be altered to fit the other styles of jerseys.

Can anyone point me to some software programs/applications that I can use to draw-up a design with?

Also --- can we please get a pic of the previous BF design, so we don't end up w/ something too similar?

Thanks

one question: is this going to be produced by verge, and if so, does it need to include their logo in the design?

There is no definate answer to who we are using right now. But I think that they are crafty and are able to fit it in somewhere.

I think its not too hard to do something different from the last jersey design wise...

ha, ha -- very true. I don't think I'd come close to creating something like that.

In my view I think it was kind of ugly.

... and virtually all custom clothing manufacturers insist on putting their logo somewhere. garneau usually goes for the chest, collar and/or sleeve, sugoi likes the collar and the sleeve, verge likes the pocket...

Is there really a difference in cost between 2 and full color? I think all jerseys are sublimated know and I've never noticed a price difference between simple and complex sublimation. I may be wrong, but was just curious.

full colour is four colours. that typically adds $20 per jersey. most custom shops will also charge an additional set-up fee to make full-colour films. evidently, there is some complexity in registering the separations.

the other thing, quite honestly, is i'd like to avoid some of the interesting cross fades we had on the old jersey.

Geez, I'm colour challenged (colour blind in pre PC talk) and it gives me headaches!

I'd like to stick to a 2 colour design, something tastefully simple.

I like simple and am fine with 2 colors. I work in the sportswear and graphic arts industry and find the BS amusing that the custom shops will come up with. Most custom orders (especially small runs) are printed using a large digital printer (simlilar to an oversize inkjet printer). There are no films, registration, color seps etc. Anyway, like I said, simple is better.

Ok, here's my contribution to the jersey design.
I figure from behind, at first glance, it kinda looks like a police or some kinda official jersey, with the dark blue and all.

The only creepy thing is, every time you open the zipper, you'll be splitting lance's head open...

You might make sure you have the right to use that image (Lance) or any image for that fact before using in the contest as there are copyright laws.

I work in the photography and graphic arts industry and I will be submitting my design.

True, I will replace it with an image of me instead... brrr.... Although I'm pretty sure the LAF wouldn't have a beef if we just emailed asking them if they could donate an image to us.

If someone took a picture of Lance, I don't see what the problem would be. If I had a great picture of any cyclists, I'd use it if I felt like it. I have the right to use my pictures as I see fit.

Not like I want a Lance pic on a bikeforums jersey either, though.
