General Resource Guide

I am trying to learn enough to buy a road bike. Can anyone recommend a book or magazine that covers both components of a road bike and rates the different manufacturers and their models. I feel like I have been floundering trying to pick this information up and I know it has to be out there, right?

Thanks,
Kevin

Each year in the Spring(East Coast USA) Bicycling and VeloNews magazines issue special editions(Buyer's Guide) about new bicycles and components in several categories.

But really it's just another opinion by someone else and cyclists each and all have more opinions than all the politicians together.

Most people in this area seem to ride a middle of line bicycle; which is fine for recreation. That is a bicycle with Shimano Tiagra or Shimano 105 components.

I would suggest that you first envision yourself as what type of riding inspires you and what type of terrain you will be riding on.

Don't be impulsive and make a bicycle selection that "inspires", "fits properly" and looks right for "you".

Pick up some past issues of Bicycling Magazine ... especially the Buyer Guide issues from the past couple years. I have all the magazines since early 90's ... and they are invluable ... albeit taking up WAY too much space in my spare room!
