Quick food

Howdy,
I've commited to ride the Lotoja Classic, 208 miles in the rocky mountains. So being new to mid distance rides my first question is, what foods are best for quick energy during a ride. I prefer wet stuff like apples and oranges but I don't know how fast they are metabolized.
My riding partner says bananas are it, then power bars and Gatorade, I can hack Gatorade but I'm not real fond of power bars.

whatever you choose, be sure to test it out on some training rides. the sugars in things like cookies and candy bars can give you bad cramps. bananas are good, as are fruit juices, but try a low acid juice like apple or grape. i am partial to power gels -- qwik, easy, and they work!
