Does anyone make a SPD compatible mountain shoe in basic black (look like black sneakers/running shoes) that are flexible enough to walk in when the cleats are removed?

I ride both on and off road. My off road rides are on easy trails -- nothing extreme. My on road rides are long and moderately paced. I like to get off occasionally and stop in a convenience store or even a garage sale. In other words, I ride for recreation/exercise, I don't race.

I will not even consider "road shoes", any shoe I can't walk in doesn't fit the bill. This leaves "mountain shoes". I've found a lot of mountain shoes that are functional, but the styling leaves something to be desired. Most mountain shoes, that I've seen, look like they've been designed by the people who draw Japanese science fiction comic books.

All I want is a plain black mountain shoe without monster truck tire tread soles or explosions of neon colors. Are patrol cop cycling shoes SPD compatible? If so, that's the style of shoe I want. Anyone know where to get them?

I know that they make SPD shoes for bike cops that are all black and suitable for walking. I don't have a reference handy but maybe some googling will turn it up.

Check out your local police/fire supply store. There are a variety of uniform bike shoes available for police use, most of em pretty standard black athletic types.
