SPD compatible Converse All Stars?

I've heard about people using pretty much any shoe to go clipless. KInda like this. Essentially, they carve out a portion of the sole, stick in some hardware, and ta-da, a cycling shoe. Anyone know about some sort of guide to do this. If not, is this really difficult to do? If it isn't how do you do it?

I have a pair of Shimano MO21s. They are essentially mountain bike shoes, but I wear them on my road bike, because I've had a couple accidents with the regular road shoes slipping off the pedal.

The MO21s are nice, there are several brands of shoes that have the cleat insert available. I like them, just because the rubber underneath helps to keep the feet from slipping.

One piece of advice, since these type of shoes are a soft soled type shoe, you may experience foot pain when riding longer distances. I took care of that problem by getting a sheet of steel and using the shoe inserts as a guide, cut a pair of steel inserts for the inside of the shoe.

Check out PerformanceBike.com for the types of shoes that they have. Look under the Mountain bike section.

This falls into the "might be true, but i doubt it" catagory. Attaching the cleats to the shoe is the easy part. I'd think that the hard part would be making the attachment stable enough to handle all of the forces of pedaling. Anytime that you did any kind of pedaling motion other than straight down you're trying to pull the top of your shoe off of the bottom. I wouldn't bet on Chuck Taylor's handleing that kind of stress.
