Bike Carriers - Recommendations?

This forum is great. I have gained more information and knowledge than I ever imagined. Thanks to you all. There is something to be said for experience.

I am interested in getting some recommendations on carriers for one or two bikes. I have an auto and an SUV with a 2" hitch. Any brands exceptionally good values? I don't want to damage either the bike or the vehicle during transport.

I tried Yakima and Thule. The Yakima didn't fit my application (2004 Nissan Frontier) because the part that goes into the hitch wasn't long enough to clear my bumper. Knowing what I know now I'd go with the Thule, I think it's better made but the accessories (lock, sway cages) cost a little more. If you have a spare tire carrier you'll have to make sure the racks will clear it. The Thule is about 12 inches from the hitch pin hole to the bend, the Yakima a little shorter. I can mount my bike in about a minute. Two bikes takes about 5 minutes.

I tried a Thule hitching post and junked it. It took 15 minutes to load and I still couldn't keep the bikes from touching. I invested in a sportworks t2 and love it - its pricey, but damn its a fine rack - worth every penny in my book, but I'm really particular about my bikes.

I'm happy w/ Thule Parkway (closest current is Expressway). Works great for 3 adult & one trail-a-bike. Has devices to prevent sway and integrated locks.
