What do you think of this.... re: Giant
When I first began shopping for a new bicycle (I'm new to gettting back to biking after a 20 yr. absence) I **seriously** looked at Giant Ferrago.
I was somewhat concerned at the lack of info on the bike (no literature, nothing!), then after I began considering other bikes, dismissed it altogether.
Now today, in my quest to find the Bianchi that I'd like, one bike shop (I called an out of town shop that is close to where my husband is working) said, "stop in sometime and see my Giant line." Kinda opened a window to conversation.
So I asked him if he had the Giant Farrago that I'd seen in a shop here. Nooooooooooooo he said, that bike isn't current (illuding that it's an older model).
Hmmmm, mind if I ask you some questions, I asked him.
We conversed, and what I ended up with was, "unless it's a European bike that you're looking at, it's probably an older model (2-3 yrs)."
If this is true, that burns me up.
Not that I wouldn't be interested in buying an older model, but I would expect the store to be truthful with me and not charge me a full price. I recall being told it was a current model. When I asked for specs they compared it to the Cypress Dx (tho the frame does say Ferrago). This is a fairly lg. bike shop, hard to believe they wouldn't say "this is a bike from 200- .
All the research I'd done, when trying to obtain info about the bike, was older model stuff. So seems logical to assume the store I talked to today is right on.
What'cha think about that?

If you do a search on Giant's site for Farrago---2000 is the last year that comes up on the list. I think that would indicate 2000 was the last year for that model.

Good thing you did your research. But to give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe the person you spoke to wasn't very experienced and assumed that if the bike is new, it must be a current model. At least you didn't find out after you purchased it.

you know what i don't like: the bike shop is family owned and practically everyone in there is related or closely associated with the owners. so if this is true, there's no excuse for that! i despise dishonesty when the end result is gain for one and loss for another.
i guess the only loss would be if i were to buy the bike, have something happen and have to sell it (finding then that it was an older model).
what kind of bike shop wouldn't disclose the model yr. ??? that's just something i'd expect to have made known to me when i made the purchase.
hmmmmmmmm........ me sure wonders about this.

Even if it's "showroom new", they should tell you how long it's been sitting there. Usually, shops are into moving out the last-years models just like car dealers, so they can get the brand-new stuff from the distributor.
i bought a two-year old Trek roadster at 500.00 off the sticker price.

Before anyone jumps to conclusions based on information by people that really don't know what they are talking about...
Giant made a limited edition Farrago this year and the past year, its not on the website because its not a standard production model... only the top Giant dealers get them.
