Does anyone have any floor pump recommendations? Products to avoid? I'm looking to spend <$25 on a pump - being a grad student on a budget.
I'm looking at the Topeak "Joe Blow Sprint" pump - does anyone have experience with it? Good? Bad? Yes/No? Thanks. prendrefeu. |
I'm actually in the market for a new floor pump as well.
I'm currently using a Serfas Airbones that I bought at the LBS a few years ago - my first pump. Frankly, it sucks the devil's ass. I didn't realize what a cruddy pump it was because I've had nothing to compare it against, but I used a friend's Specialized pump (unsure of model) and it was wonderful by comparison. The Serfas just doesn't let go of the valve, and I've ripped a valve stem or two in the last few years just trying to get it on and off. The Specialized went on and off like a breeze, and there was no seal issues like I have with the Serfas. I'd say just go try a few out, if your LBS has several to choose from. |
My recommendation is this: ... find a rim/tire on a bike in a shop, and test the presta adapters/pump heads on any pumps you might purchase to see how easy they pull off of presta valve stems ...

I have this one: $20 http://www.performancebike.com/shop/....cfm?SKU=18622
It's worked wonderfully, only problem was user error. Once I figured out lever up was locked and down was unlocked, the reverse of what I expected. I've had not problems with it and it is easy to pump to to 100psi if you wish. |

I have a Blackburn, I'm not sure of the model though. I got it on sale for $40, so that might be out of your price range. But I love it. It has a side for Presta and a side for Schroder. (sp?) so you don't have to have an adapter. It also has the readout up high, so you don't have to squint to read the psi's.
Good luck! |
