Tape apparently doesn't work like a good weld

So last night I was standing at the platform waiting for my train to get in and there were these younger (15year old) kids out with their BMX and Cyclocross bikes. They were havin a grand ol' time doin tricks and what not and generally just riding in circles. I was watching them and talking with my girl on the phone when out of nowhere one of the bikes snapped in half and tossed the unsuspecting kid head first onto the paverstones!! It sounded like a coconut on brick and I saw his body do a mid air verticle hang before it crashed to the ground. I could hardly beleive it. It was one of those moments when you think to yourself "is this **** really happening?" I quickly hung up the phone and ran over to the kid, who beleive it or not wasn't bleeding....yet, and helped him up off the ground and asked him if he was alright. All the while his buddies were standing around laughing at him. He seemed a little shaken, but nothin too major, or at least that I could see.

The part that was really crazy is the fact that the frame seemed to just snap in half at the headtube. And at the time he wasn't putting any unusual force on the handle bars or general area. But then upon closer inspection I noticed that the dumbass had tried to use duct tape to hold his already broken frame together!! I asked him about the tape and he said that he taped it a few days ago and it had held up just fine. So now I am thinkin that this kid is either a complete moron or just has a death wish. I have done ALOT of really stupid **** throughout my life, but never something this idiotic.

And the best part...NO HELMET. People that dumb should probably protect what little brains they have.

Do you guys have any other good accident stories...?

In this case the duct tape needed a little bailing wire. Heh heh

I remember trying to tape my brake lever onto my handle bars.. didn't work.. crashed into a telephone pole.. I was like 9 or 10. It's fun to be stupid though, sometimes.. under certain circumstances

It figures that he would land on his head.....clearly not much up there to damage. Did he hurt the paverstone?

I bet if he used bubble gum and bailing wire it woulda held.

Poor kid. He probably could not afford the good duct tape.

He probably should have read that book those guys made of all the uses of duct tape.. That's a crazy book too.
