Cell Phone Idea (sorry if dupe)

Sorry if this is a dupe, but I just read this in my local cycling group's email list, and I thought I'd share. In England, EMTs are encouraging people who bring cell phones cycling or rock climbing to program "ICE" -- "In Case of Emergency" into the phone as a number the EMT can call to get someone who knows you. This works especially well if you have special medical needs (not as well as an alert bracelet, but better than nothing.)
My cell phone display is large enough to display "EMERGENCY", so I'm using that instead, so that a random passerby finding me with my head caved in will be more inclined to hit that (after calling the paramedics, hopefully.)

Not a bad idea I have a "incase of emergency" in my wallet.

The theory behind keeping the info in your cell phone under the heading ICE is that if a thief grabs your wallet, purse etc. while you are there injured, the info will be there and readily available in your phone. Of course if they steal that.......... Believe me there are people out there that will grab anything they can off an injured person. A co-worker was in a near fatal crash and while she was in being tended to theives got her purse, laptop and anythig else the could carry away.

I already programmed 911 in my phone, and it's the first number on the list, so I don't have to scroll or anything for it. I just hit the first number and talk. Thank goodness.

No, what the OP said was that the number stored is used for emergency personnel/hospital to call a family member or someone else to notify them in case you are unconscious. I have MOM stored, so I don't have to worry about that :p
