Well I won;t do THAT again (power nap)

Some time ago I had asked for advice on an energy booster for riding (07-23-02) and I got some usefull advice.

But what I tried last night, to boost my energy I won't do again.

I hear of people taking these "Power Naps" and thought maybe I'd try one of those. Never ever having taken a nap in my adult life, I came home from work, tired as usual, lay down on the bed for about 30 minutes, almost fell asleep, dozed really.

When I got up my head felt like it was stuffed with cotton, and my vision was like looking through a water glass, and I felt as if the brain was 3 seconds behind my body. Then I went for a ride 30 minutes later and I was constantly looking at my legs wondering why the damn things just didn't want to move.

I spent 1.5 hours on the bike did a tad over 40 km, but i was sooooo slow. Felt better towards the end of the ride, but I ain't doin' THAT nap crap again.

I really don;t see how people can take a nap and feel refreshed, all I wanted to do was crawl back into bed. I have come to the conclusion that if I sit or lie down, that's it, I aint moving again....so I keep moving.

Does anyone do these power nap things?

Same here ... a nap usually wipes me out. If I go home and sit or nap then I'm all done ... no gym .. no ride. I find it best to get home and get right to the things that need to be done.

Not only do daytime naps wipe me out, but when it comes time to actually go to bed I end up wide awake for hours. This seems to be true even if I only doze of for a few minutes in the afternoon or early evening.

I can't nap either. I feel much worse than before I laid down. The only time I have ever fallen asleep was after a really hard and strenuous hike. I stretched out across the bed for just a second, and the next thing I knew, it was 30-45 minutes later. Still felt like a sloth.

Power nappping doesnt come naturally, you need to train at it. Sometimes I have really extended training sessions. I find wet sunday mornings particularly condusive to power-nap training.

Set yourself a training schedule with a goal of the hours slept every week. You should be able to increase the total over a number of weeks.

You should kit yourself out with proper equipment. Most people use polyester pillows, but retro-grouches like myself prefer down filled versions.
