Going anywhere

If you had the time and resources, where would you bike to? Like, a specific place you you would consider worth the trip.

New Zealand. Ride from one end to the other and back again.

I would like to try some of the TDF mountain passes.

If I actually had the time and resources, I would bike around the world... :D

i've got a trip planned to go ride some of the lonely beautiful roads in the eastern sierra next month. in april we're going to the south of france for two weeks and taking bikes. after that, northern italy. someday i'd like to check out the scandanavian countries too.

New Zealand would be nice. My personal fantasy is to take a bicycle tour of all the great gothic cathedrals in France. :)

Hey, check out this ride on Sept 10 in Mammoth.http://www.fallcentury.org/

Don't forget June Lake Loop.

Spain. We'd start in Barcelona and ride across the top of the country along the Pyrenees, to the northern coast and end in Santiago de Compostela.

How did the motorists treat you? I heard of a case of a Swedish female biker and a companion who was touring in the countryside and a passing motorist threw a bottle at her. She had to be taken to hospital with serious leg cuts and had to cancel the tour. Just something I heard.

If I had nothing waiting for me back home (no job, no school, for example), and I had a huge budget, I'd do the following...

Put together an excellent touring package with bike, tent and other equipment.
A seriously loaded tour.
I'd then start riding in February, to build stamina and get the distances into my legs, and then set off in late March or early April.

My starting point would be Gothenburg (where I'll move to in a couple of weeks).
I'd ride 70-150 km every day, for 4-5 days a week, going first towards Stockholm, and then up the coast through Sweden, cross over into Finland at the tip of the Baltic Sea, and then continue down through Finland, threading my way through the Swedish-speaking areas along the coast.

Just before the Finnish coast turns eastwards, I'd get on a boat and spend a couple of weeks island hopping in the Åland archipelago. Then to Åland itself, and from there, back to Stockholm.

If I still had time, and felt like it, I'd follow the Swedish Baltic coast down, and around to Malmö, and from there, over to Copenhagen, out to Esbjerg, up along the Danish North Sea coast to Skagen and down to Frederikshavn, and back over to Gothenburg.

Otherwise, I'd return straight to Gothenburg from Stockholm, and return another year to do the last part of the trip in reverse order, and then back from Stockholm again.

Pretty detailed plans for what's only a dream, huh?

I would like to bike from the East coast to the West (USA) with camping supplies, good friends and an endless supply of beer and pizza. Now, if I could just get my dog to ride in one of those kiddie trailers. ;)

Definetly New Zealand, either cycle or hike.
