Thirty spoke wheels

Lao Tzu, in his old age, finally gave up on humanity as a lost cause. He packed his yak, and headed for the wilderness where things were sane. At the top of a mountain pass, the last outpost of civilization, the gatekeeper persuaded Lao Tzu to commit his philosophy to paper before he left humankind forever. The resulting book, consisting of just over five thousand Chinese characters, became the famous Tao Te Ching, which means "the book of the Way and its power."

Passage 11:
Thirty spokes join together at one hub,
But it is the hole in the center that makes it operable.

Clay is molded into a pot,
But it is the emptiness inside that makes it useful.

Doors and windows are cut to make a room,
It is the empty spaces that we use.

Therefore, existence is what we have,
But non-existence is what we use.

We have a million million brain cells, but it is the empty space between our ears which makes us human.

Most have two eyes, yet see nothing.
Most have two ears. yet hear nothing.
All have one brain, and most use it not.
All have one mouth, and speak anyway.

With all due respect to Lao Tzu, there are a few things that I need cleared up:

What spoking pattern do you use on a 30-spoke wheel? It would seem that, with 15 spokes/side, you would not be able to do the typical under/over spoking. Do all the spokes come through the same side? If so, how do they cross over-or do you have to radial spoke them? Or, more likely, is the hub non-standard?

These questions and many others come to mind whenever I hear such obtuse quotations.
