Cheap and chintzy chinese-made crap

I bought a Norco Kathmandu, an " entry-level" bottom end mountain bike to take out to my place in the mountains and leave there. $400 Cdn from my local store.
It rides great. It shifts when it is supposed to, the brakes work fine, the cheap shock absorbs the bumps. What more do you want?
Its a hoot to blast around the block on. I love it!

--- Sounds cheap but sturdy. Give us a follow-up report after six months of hard riding.

If you're going to be toodling around the street, you honestly don't need a $1000 bike to do that.

Depends on how you use it. For a DownHiller, your CAN$400 bike maybe (maybo not) trashed immediately. For a normal, civilized, decent cyclist, your CAN$400 bike will last. You still have the rest of CAN$3000 - CAN$400 = CAN$2600 for Canadian beers.

Nah, its not for downhilling, nor toodling around the street.

Its for bombing around the logging roads and trails in the hills. I don't expect it to last forever-its an aluminum frame after all- but on the other hand I won't be heartbroken if
it disappears.

I'm going to get started on that $2600 of beer this afternoon!
