hello to all you biker folk- all of this bike talk is pretty much greek to me, i've been out of riding for ten years (now i'm 26) but i inherited a 1993ish schwinn high plains that i'm trying to rescue from disrepair. i need some advice on what to repair to get it going again. it looks like the tires are shot(dry rot), chain is rusty, but the frame is free from rust. the wheels look good (aluminum doesn't rust, thank God,). i plan to use this just as a to school and back bike (2 mi. round trip), so where is a decently priced place to get tires, chains, gear cables, brake pads, etc.? i would really appreciate it if you guys can help me out. i am pretty much in the dark right now.
When the spirits are low, when the day appears dark, when work becomes monotonous, when hope hardly seems worth having, just mount a bicycle and go out for a spin down the road, without thought on anything but the ride you are taking. — Arthur Conan Doyle
A brand new Trek cyclocross and a very old Schwinn road bike with a long interesting history. Ask me if you want to hear the whole story.
Well, I can't recomend a place to go without knowing where you are. Where I live good bike shops are hard to find. It sounds like you know what to replace though. I'm in the process of repainting my old Schwinn.
