Buying a new bike and modding old one..

I am new to the "intense biking" world and am looking for a good quality bike with a comfortable ride. I will use it mainly on the roads on long rides. I need a bike that will minimize the effect of potholes, speed bumps, curbs and other annoying things like that. what else....Oh right, I've heard that road bikes have thin wheels and that thin wheels make bumpier rides. Mountain bikes on the other hand, i've heard, have thicker wheels but are slower on the street. Is there some sort of happy medium that I should be looking for? Do you recommend any certain brand?

I'm also looking for accessories (sound system, fan, and possibly headlights) for my old bike, mainly to experiment with. Any suggestions besides just taping speakers/flashlight/minifan to my handlebar?

I guess for the super hot days we've been having in Austin lately. But then again, if I'm biking, I shouldn't really need a now should I? Scratch that fan part hehe...

Uh... you shouldn't be riding over curbs/potholes anyways. Any wheel will be damaged with constant abuse. It's not really about the tires.

If you install a 1500 CFM behind you blowing at you, you'll always have a constant tailwind...

Why don't you just Get and mp3 Player for a sound system. And go Faster and then it will seem like to have a fan.

Or you could install Rockets and you can go really fast and then the wind can blow in your face!
