How do you feel about riding in the rain? Me, I love it. For one thing it shows a strong sign of commitment and passion for the bike ride. Yesterday in the pouring rain I rode 18 miles on Chicago's Lakefront trail. There were people seeking shelter from the rain at different overpasses and most of the runners and cyclist that were on the trail seemed to enjoy the rain.
Anyways the "punchline" to this post is when I arrived back home, one of the maintence workers (I live in a highrise) said to me " looks like you got caught in the rain" and I responded "No I went out in the rain!"

I like riding in the rain also. The cool rain is a relief from the 90 to 100 degree days.
I rode 30 miles in the rain yesterday. A nice couple from DuPage county rode with me from Neptune to Uranus. The ride was the Interplanetary ride in Peoria.

I love the rain, it makes the trail a totally new and wicked beast. Oh yeah, it cools you off a bit.

Rain is excellent in small doses. When the ground is tacky and the roots are a little wet, makes for PErrrrrrrrrrrrfect trail riding.

First off, riding in Chicago would be "nuts" to me...gees the cars are crazy in that town. But really, riding in the rain...I like the skin on my skeleton. So if I ride in the rain I will change to my hybrid with a bit bigger tires. Rain does nasty things to oil on roads!

I would love riding in the rain--oh yeah, I did yesterday. We had our first good rain of the summer--this one usually marks the end of the dry season. We were so happy that we went outside and got eachother soaked (and I'm 30). This also means the beachlike sand is going bye-bye on our trails! Unfortunately, during rain, I'm confined to the roads since the Oklahoma Earthbike Fellowship--a club that maintains most of the trails in the state--has a "rule" here that the MTB trails are "closed" for 48 hours after a hard rain, and I wish to honor that rule. But, I still love the rain and love to ride in it.

There's nothing like blasting along in the pouring rain, completely soaked, water spraying off your front tire and missing your completely inadequate fender on its way to your face, water pouring off your back tire directly into your shoes...

I love it. Every time it rains hard I get this stupid grin on my face .

Actually what I don't like is light rain. Because it usually raises the humidity without lowering the temperature, and the road is wet enough to get mucky without there being enough water to wash the dirt off.

I find riding in the rain quite cathartic. Nobody at my office can understand it. Quite a few people try to offer me lifts home on rainy afternoons, and all think I'm nuts when I refuse!

The only mildly frustrating part is the extended cleanup of the bike when I get home. In fine weather, I just wipe the bike down and lube it up on the weekends, but I always wipe down and relube after a rainy ride.

i don't mind the rain when it's warm. I was caught in a downpour in the spring and had to stop, i got the shivers. I didn't like it.

I rode in the rain yesterday. It was pretty warm and made the ride easier I thought.

and I second the comment about it being a pain to clean the bike up after the rain.

There isn't much rain around here, so when it shows I definitely take advantage. Earlier this month it started raining just as I was getting home from my commute. I went inside, switched from commute mode to beach cruiser and sandals mode, and then went back out for the duration. Always makes me feel like a kid, except now when I get home all soaked and splattered, mom isn't around to yell at me .
