Trek 7500FX with or without disc brakes?
My first first post as a new cyclist!
My dilemma:
I was originally going to get a 2005 Trek 7500FX with standard brakes. The best price I found was for $650 at a LBS. I then managed to find the same 2005 7500FX with disc brakes on sale for $600 at another LBS and bought it. If it was not on sale, it would have been $700. It is a special order from both shops so I am buying sight unseen (but I have rode the 7300FX).
Question ...
According to the Trek catalog, both versions come with Bontrager Select wheels. A cyclist on another thread said he did not get paired spoke wheels with his disk brakes and instread got a heavier standard lace wheel. What am I going to end up with? Should I cancel the special order and pay $50 more for standard brakes?

I will admit to being one that doesn't immediately grasp at new technology.
When the low spoke count wheels came out I expected to see a lot of failures. It hasn't happened. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm not really worried about it, I was just wondering what I'm gonna get.
I've never compared the difference between disk and v-brakes. I'm pretty sure the wheels wouldn't get wet with my style of road/light trail riding.
I bet there is as much "load" by the rear gears during an uphill climb on the paired spokes of the standard v-brake 7500FX.
I just went for the cheaper package!

disc > rim brakes.
so you don't get the cutesy paired-spoke wheels. so what? i think most of these wacky new lacing designs are 100% cosmetic. there is nothing wrong with a 36h/3x wheel...

Looks like there is plenty of debate in this forum about disc vs v-brakes and paired spoke vs. crossed.
Sounds like the best thing to do is stick with what I ordered ... the cheapest package which happens to include disk brakes.
