On July 3, I woke at 3 am enjoying the sensations caused by a 7mm kidney stone. Kept me off the bike until the 5th of August.

Staying up till 1am watching le tour. I could never wake up the next morning for my AM ride.

webist, 7mm! I once had one the size of a grain of sand. I was puking all night long due to the pain. That kept me off the bike for a few days.

Overtraining.

A month ago, after a 474 km week, I found myself with no motivation to ride. So I took a few days off, did a few rides without the HRM, mixed it up for a few weeks with some out-of-season cyclocross, built a couple of bikes...

And I'm back.

I tore up my knee skiing in February, and had surgery in April. I'm still recovering, but I'm finally back on my steeds!!!!! :D :D

Broke my toe and had a really bad
ride last weekend. I've been really lazy
since then.
The only other thing I can think of
would be I don't get in enough miles on
a weekly basis.

Food poisoning. Picked it up a week ago Monday and spent 5 consecutive days in bed with a fever and wrenching guts. Finally got back on the bike yesterday and again this evening after 8 days off.

As a result, won't be racing at Mt. Snow this weekend. Bummer!!:(

Stupidly klonked my knee on the bedpost, and then went out on bike ride and made it all sore and had to take a week and a half off. It was a big drag, but the good thing is that I was really motivated when I got back on the bike. Also, we've had such great weather this summer (except for when it was really hot) that I didn't have to worry about making up for lost time. I've been able to go nearly every day!

I don't understand losing sleep over the tour. Why not just tape it? Unless you don't have a VCR- I just assume most people do.

I ate cafeteria food for 2 weeks.

In the first race of the season I crashed. It would not have been so bad except for the only two rocks with in 50yards that cushioned my fall. I ended up with a severe deep contusion and a slight fracture in my femer. Had to take 2 mo off to heal. Then about a month ago my wife and I found this single track, approx. 70 degree slope, 12 inches wide with a cliff on one side and a chainlink fence on the other, no prob I said. Took off got 80% of the way down when my front tire went off an 8" drop, landed and sunk about a foot into the sand. It sent my rear tire over the front, bars went through the fence, my left leg went between the down tube and top tube. Lets just say ouch. Could not walk or cycle for a week.

Ditto the overtraining. I tried to start lifting weights with my legs, and keep up riding around 6 days a week. Not too long before my legs were begging for a break.

Hit a car at 25 mph (40 kmh) on April 30th. Caused me to lose 3.5 months of riding.

On the up side, I gained about 12 lbs (5 kg)

I'm back, though. <GRIN>

In May, I had a bout with cramps in my calves due to not enough water, potassium, and magnesium. The tight calves translated themselves into Achilles Tendonitis, in part because of a type of flat foot. 3 months later, I am just now getting back on the bike. Custom insoles have done wonders.

Drink water. Take cramps seriously. I was stupid and missed nearly a whole summer of training.

Cheers,
Jamie

This one involved 2 trips to the OR and a couple episodes of living witha stent installed. Fortunately it was round so they could pull it out rather than cut or explode it.

Now that you mention it, the time off did permit me to watch nearly all stages of the TDF live:p Thanks for reminding me of the "silver lining."

Probably crashing too often. Definitely.

Oh yeah, and eating too many biscuits at work.
