HELP Is this a good deal for a BIKE

Hey guys,

Thank goodness for this forum. I am a jogger who has recently decided to do some cross training and added bike riding to my regement(I am not a newbie but still got much to learn about riding). Recently I was approached by an associate who is selling a "Specialized" bike, 27 speed, made in 2003 for $850. To my understanding Specialized Bikes may not be a Ferrie, but are the Mercedes of Bikes. Do you any of you out there think this is a good deal. Please give me some input??????

THANKS!

Trek and Specialized are the GM and Honda of bikes respectively.

You can't buy a bad one, but you can buy one that doesn't fit or is inappropriate for your use. If you keep that in mind instead of obsessing over components, frame material and paint, you'll come out OK.

When I bought my specialized Allez in 2002 it was $700 (on sale from 1300). It came with Sora/Tiagra mix. So if they are selling 03 for $850 it better have some ultegra stuff.

I would agree with this if it was an Allez, however he hasn't yet said if it is. If it is a Roubaix...it is definitely a good deal.

Thanks for the input, you guys... I havent reached the guy to ask him exactly what model of Specialized Bike it is, However everyone's information has been helpful.

HalfSpeed, I liked your Honda Ford analogy. But tell me guys what are the Ferrie and Mercedes of bicycles?

IMHO, no. Better bikes are available new for that price.
