I haven't purchased many yet, but a Nalini Jersey I bought for $ 65 is fantastic.
For shorts, a pair of $ 45 Blackbottoms seem pretty nice.

I like Garneau jerseys. I have a nalini that I don't like
due to short zipper. However I haven't gotten
my Bike Forums jersey which will be my fav.
As for shorts. . . well my favourite is a pair
of Castelli bibs and they're not even the
Progetto Y2. They're mid range and
extremely comfortable.

My fave jerseys are a Voler [long zipper], a Revi [long zipper] and a Sugoi [my LBS's shop jersey, short zipper]. My fave bibs are Garneau's Ultra pro bibs and Voler's team bibs... though the latter don't seem to be wearing as well as the former.

Velocipedio,
Funny you mention that. I have a pair of Voler bibs that have great fit and pad, but after just a few months they are already showing fuzzing/wear under the sit bones. Older Aussie brand shorts that get a lot more use don't show any obvious wear.
FWIW,
Raymond

Velocipedio,
Where did you find the Garneau bibs? I've been looking
for a pair for a while now. Not to say I don't like
the Castellis I just like the Garneau jersey so much I
guess their bibs would be equally as good.
Sorry to hear about the Volers, I was also
interested in those.

I have a variety of jerseys - Performance (single color cheapos for commuting), club jerseys (PyroApparel - like Sugoi but heavier weight CoolMax), Voler and others. I wear Colorado Cyclist house brand shorts and just bought 2 pair of Santini Bib shorts from BikeJerseys.com They are cheaper in price, made in Italy and my first pair of bibs. So far,so good. I do like the pad design.
I also have a pair of Voler shorts that fit snug for their size. A couple of things bug me about them. The elastic waistband is too narrow and ends up getting twisted and rolling over - uncomfortable. And...despite others saying they like the padding, I've often had one of the seams (between the blue part on the outside and the grey part in the center) dig in and be pretty darn pinchy on a long ride. Plus only one of the logos has stayed on. I have friends (with money) that wear Castelli and other upscale Euro shorts and rave about the fit and wear.

Bikeman,
I got my Castelli's for less than $50 on e-bay.
Sure they're not the top o the line
(they're the variothick model) but well worth it.
sometime I'm gonna have to pony up and try
the top of the line, but at $140 list thats steep
(I do see em on e-buy for about 90)

My favorite everyday short for commuting to work, Just by Nashbar- their hydro shorts. COmmute 26 -can't go too cheap. Need comfort..
For more special rides- I like my Garneau's elite shorts. Very comfortable. An off brand I bought for long tour's where you want something that can take abuse- Adventure Cycling sells a rugged short by Jackson and Gibbens. They really hold up. On a tour for days, thats what I wear.
Favorite jersey's Cannondale olympic jeysey with the 7 strips wiht side vents and long zipper or Garneau's French flag jersey with long zipper. Tourned France twice, over there wear nothing else. French offered to buy it off me, sweat and all.

I just use blackbottoms for shorts.
LBS is way too high on jerseys and doesn't carry any plain colors so I get them for about $29 at https://www.pacesportswear.com/

I also still like my "La Vie Claire" team jersey from the Greg Lemond days. (That's the one that looks like it was designed by Piet Mondrian.)
