Pics of People in their Sunglasses

I'm in the market for some sunglasses, probably high end, Oakleys or Rudy Projects. The way I view it, whatever I get for cycling is a good investment in health, and even when things are overpriced I can justify it since I'm saving so much by not driving. Sunglasses can serve a dual role in non-cycling wearing too, but for that they need to look halfway decent, which is why I need to see sunglasses on faces.

For instance, just by pictures alone I would say the Rudy Project Kalyos look the best, but based on a few magazine pictures here and there, it seems like the wider, narrower type tend to look best on a face, such as the dude on the right side of that page.

Post pictures of yourself wearing your glasses!

I know I'm going to get hammered for this and lose a few points of OCP status but... Why do sunglasses cost so much?

They are worse than some of our titanium/carbon bike equipment. An average pair of sport sunglasses have less than 1oz. of plastic, little or no metal, and plastic lenses. Don't tell me Rudy or Oakley have that much in machining, tooling, engineering costs to justify selling glasses that likely cost them no more than a $1 to make for 100x or more to us. They probably spend more on market studies asking kids/adults which ones look the best than they pay the designers to draw the CAD files.

Now in the past I've had Oakley M-frames (w/ several lenses) but now that I'm older, wiser, and supporting a family (read: poorer) I tend to buy cheaper glasses. My glasses get pretty beat up from all the sweat, cleaning, the occasional dropping, kid stealing them, etc.

My list of requirments are as follows:
1. protect my eyes from debris and the sun (I NEVER ride without eye protection!)
2. optically good lenses
3. fit my head well (sunglasses/heads are like butts/saddles)
4. relatively sturdy
4. reasonably priced!

Let's compare:
Rudy Kalyos - $99.99 (Performance)
Chili’s - $9.99 (Nashbar)

I bought the Chili's and they've been great so far. Holding up well to normal wear and tear. Sturdy and fit pretty well. YMMV

$9.25

I wear these on the Trek and on the Harley... had rocks hit them. Pretty much non-breakable and look great!

Your choice to spend the bucks for something you throw around or in a bag...

That should qualify as the best site of the year! (Next to BF of course!) Wow - tons of different styles of glasses, all pretty cool, and dirt cheap. Thank you!

No, but I appreciate the offer. Just looking for cycling sunglasses that are reasonable looking enough for non-cycling use.

LoL. You should look into the Tifosi line. They're around 60 bucks I think. Cheaper than oakley for sure.

$14 - kiosk at mall.

Fairly good side sun blocking ... full spectrum protection.

After reading this thread two thoughts come to mind:

1. Don't you wish you would have just asked for pictures of just the glasses? No "wearers."

2. I wonder if Beaver Creek would like their sign back, or it's sign back.

Edit> Actually three thoughts come to mind. I wonder if that chick is featured in TRD's topless collection?

Dude, face it, everyone loves to look at me. They get to laugh Beaver Creek doesn't need the sign back, everyone knows where it is and it's a conversation piece when people come over. A sheriff actually drove by while we were taking it, and didn't even stop to ask what we were doing.

Yes, chick is featured. Ha. Pleaseeeeeee.

Boy if that isn't just the rudest thing I've heard.

BTW....I just had a thread about a month ago asking about new sunglasses because I had problems with many cycling glasses that were too tight in back giving me headaches. It took a lot of looking and research, but I found the BEST glasses EVER!! They retail for about $100, but you can pick them up on Ebay for $30 or $40.

Features:
  • Glasses are safety issue so will hold up to much impact (soliders use them in Iraq and reported they have saved their eyes from shrapnel)
  • Interchangeable Lenses - about 10 different lenses available
  • Rx lens capable
  • Arms "snap off" and there is a google strap that can strap on
  • Anti-Fog
  • Cushioned (padding) on eye sockets

Wiley-X SG-1

P.S. I love these so much I've now picked up 3 pair. One for cycling, one for general going around in, and a 3rd than I'm gonna get Rx polarized lenses for daytime driving.

Here's a question. Do higher end sunglasses actually keep air out of your eyes? The Fred Meyers pair I currently use sure don't and I'm tired of having irritated eyes.
