75th Street Schwinn - old Chicago LBS

I was wondering if anyone in the Chicago area new the fate of 75th Street Schwinn of Downers Grove. We have an 86 Schwinn World that was purchased there in well... 1986. Google'd to no avail, did they change their name or just go the way of the dodo?

More info...

75th Street Schwinn was formerly Severson's Schwinn Cyclery on Addison in Downers Grove.

We just found the Owners Manual for the 1969 Schwinn line that came with my dad's '69 Varsity. Severson's moved and became 75th St. Schwinn sometime between 73 (when he upgraded to a Paramount) and 86.

I would be interested in knowing information about Severson's as well. I recently acquired a burgundy '71 Super Sport that has the Severson's label on the down tube. It sounds like it was a large shop.

Oh man! I remember 75th St. Schwinn! I haven't thought about that places in ages. I went in there one time when I was a clumsy pre-teen and accidentally knocked a whole row of bikes down like dominoes! The people there were very nice about it. I'll ask around and see if anyone knows what happened to that place.

I know at least one person who might know, let me ask.

Makes me wonder whatever happened to the bike shop I knew as a kid... Strand's or Stranz or something like that on Union Road in Cheektowaga, NY. As I recall, the shop look like it started out as the guy's garage behind his house. Old-time bike shop with bikes and bike parts crammed everywhere. The guy was more of a pack-rat than a businessman I think. It was a very cool place to go.

All I could dig up was that the shop closed down. Don't have any details on what became of the owners.

The friend I asked didn't know either, and she's an avid cyclist who grew up there.

There was a Seversons in Lombard on North Avenue in the 70's. I believe thats where Marc Muller of Waterford bikes managed. Seversons was a big Schwinn dealer back then and probably had multiple stores.
