AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I saw it just in time, painters outside my building on a huge crane, less than 100 yards from my bike. They put plastic on the nearby cars, but I assume they didn't consider my bike needed any protection. Luckily it was only latex, but my old bike was covered in a fine mist of white paint. I just spent the last 30 minutes cleaning her up... poor baby.
OK... I feel better now, just had to get that off my chest.
I complained to the painting contractors, and to some Duke officials. They also did not have the area cordoned off from students entering and exiting the building, and their crane destroyed a crepe myrtle. WTF were they thinking?
(edit: just went back outside... painters are gone, job half-finished... [deleted])

The contractors they have at Duke at the various projects are brain dead or something. They took a bike rack away from my building without telling anyone, just moved it. Along with that, they don't even remember where they put it. My lock was attached too it and I wouldn't bet against someone else's bike actually being attached.
Of course when I talked to the facilities manager they pooh-pooh'd the entire thing and basically said tough ****.
