I rode my new Kona Smoke around Baltimore City today, along Boston Street, through Fells Point, around the Inner Harbor; then up Federal Hill and down to Fort McHenry.
It was a fun ride although Baltimore motorists suck as they hate cyclists in general. I was yelled at several times by passing motorists; then refused service at Subway unless I put my bicycle outside with no where to lock it.
Anyway I refuse to allow the disrespect for cyclists get me down, it was a beautiful day and a fun ride!

I know all those places well.
I love riding Baltimore. Been on the last several Tour du Port rides, and plan to be again next month. https://www.onelesscar.org/tdp2005/tourduport2005.php
Early on a Sunday mornings with around 1000 of us cyclists, the drivers usually behave. Since the tour is a "short" ride, I usually start early and ride the route twice.
btw On Saturday I had planned to join a group ride from Greenbelt to Federal Hill, with a ride around the harbor after lunch, and maybe the fort. Got all the way to the start and realized that I had left a bag of equipment at home (helmet, gloves and shoes.) Went home mad at myself and did a solo ride west of DC instead.

Nice pics! You're right about the drivers. (It's going to get worse - their misery is compounded by the high gas prices) Enjoy your Kona.

I hated baltimore the last three years that I lived there. I seldom went downtown, and when I did I only ever really went to either fells, inner harbor (powerplant) or federal hill. I went back up to hang out with some friends the other week. That experience, along with seeing those pics really makes me miss it. Great pics, hope you had blast. Looks like I'm going to have to try that sometime.

Hey, I agree about bmore drivers. they are rude and act like you are the problem. i have been riding in the city for about 5 years. I ride to both jobs that I have-one downtown, the other in catonsville. it looks like the top of Federal Hill is a hotspot for bike porn. i will post as soon as i have time to resize. what is the route that is used for Tour Du Port? I am thinking about doing it this year.

I live on the eastside and haven't tried to venture into the city. Dundalk Avenue is about as far west as I've gone.
Route 40 East has a bike lane, now. I've ridden that all the way to Havre de Grace and back from the Essex/Rosedale area.

They tend to use mostly the same route each year. Exception was 2001 when high security and bridge construction kept us out of Fort McHenry.
Show and go style. Starts at Rash Field, around the harbor, Fells Point, out on Boston and Holabird, zigzags to Paterson Park, through Little Italy, back around the harbor, Otterbein and Federal Hill (around the park) Riverside Park, out to the Fort, around Locust Point and back to Rash.
The tour doesn't have a lot of mileage, so I like to ride the entire route twice. Start early and do the first loop twice, then work on the second loop.
