Not really, but a lady forgot her combination on her combination cable lock. She had borrowed some bolt cutters but they worked only to compress the plastic covering. I got my leatherman tool and cut through the plastic, then twisted and bent the wires and they all broke one by one by one. Freaking amazing.

It was still a time consuming activity. I leave my U lock at work & carry a cheap cable lock on my bike in case I want to pop into a store on the way home. I think that lock would have been sufficient protection for my bike against the casual thief for the time I would be in the store

I carry a lock that sends thousands of electrical bolts through the body of any intruder.

Leatherman tools are so great! I have a Crunch I got for $5 from a pawn shop because the guy thought it was broken, I did too, but then after some research figured out how it works and it's not broken at all! If you have a Crunch you know how this could happen. I just got a Fuse because it's a nice simple tool with long enough screwdrivers on it to be useful on electronic equipment. I also have the special Micra that's only sold at Radio Shack, with a real, calibrated, wire stripper, it's like having one of my Ideals in my pocket.

And just how are you so sure that it was really her bike!

It was on her car, on her trunk rack, at the YMCA, uhm, was it really her car? DANG!

She had a great body, what can I say?

It wasn't time consuming at all. Once I saw that one of those teensy weensy wires could bust I was through in half a minute.

We have caught 10-year old kids defeating cheap cables with a pair of pliers....

Cable locks are like anything else. You get what you pay for. I use them for a secondary back-up to the U lock, or if by itself to prevent a someone from just grabbing the bike and go.
