Most of the retail prices are listed for bikes on the manufacturer's websites. This makes it very convenient for us to see if they are charging retail or giving a better deal.

My LBS, although it has improved drastically with new ownership, still charges retail for every single bike. What it says on the Trek site is EXACTLY what you pay, plus tax. I hate that! I live in a one LBS town and would love to buy local. But if i can save a couple hundred bucks by traveling out of town, i have to do it. (That buys a lot of groceries around my place.)

Does your shop charge retail for their bikes?

EDIT--------> I am asking about sticker prices. If your shop bargains and gives you a better deal that is fine. I am just asking what they mark the bikes at...is it marked above or below retail?

My experience is not so much the high pricing on bikes, its all the small stuff. Pedals, tools etc...that stuff is expensive, and many times the closeouts online are not reflected at the shops - example a few years back, I was looking to score a thudbuster seatpost and it was on clearance for 89.99 - three of the local shops had it at 169.99, same model year. I do support the lbs, buy the tee shirts and bottles etc..

I find it hard to support the LBS on some stuff. Sometimes it's great though.

At iMartin by my house, I noticed the Treks were marked up, then put on sale at the prices listed on Trek site.

My shop is always less. Also accepts credit cards without a surcharge which a lot of shops here don't do.
