I prevented a bike theft!
Last night at 3:45 AM while I was working the over night shift at my local homeless shelter I saw these three young guys, not clients, lurking around the neighbourhood. After a while, one of them grabbed bolt cutters out of his backpack and proceeded to scale the balcony of a condominium complex. From my vantagepoint I could not see what he was up to so I walked over and asked him if I could be of assistance. His friends rode off and he jumped from the second story of the building and quickly rode off on his bike. Oddly enough, one of our female clients came up to me to see if I got ripped off on a crack deal.

They were scaling the balcony of a residential building and all you consider is simple bike theft? What you did was a good thing, but, you failed to follow through by sounding the alarm. The bolt cutters may have been to most expedient means available of breaking into a person's home and doing them harm. Just my 2 pence.

You prevented something, but that something wasn't as worth it if you had actually called the cops and have them arrested.

Congratulations for preventing the theft. I've said before that there should be a special place in hell for bike theives, so maybe there should be a special place in heaven for people who intervene. Fortunately they didn't use anything else in that backpack to help you get there sooner!

of course everyone will want to hear that the person was arrested and bla bla...
But we all know that's not reality.
Sometimes just preventing the theft is the best thing.
And for fears that the perp might B&E. Well, that's why people own guns. Not getting in the political boat but if people don't feel the police can protect them, they take it into their own hands right or wrong.
