Signs
This sign is about 1/3 mile from my work and I really enjoy riding past it on my way home.
Haven't been stopped yet.

I would imagine that is for the sidwalk. What does the traffic code state as for biking on roads? If that sign does apply to the road, it is legal as per the state/federal road regulations?

This sign is between the raod and the sidewalk, usually indicating that it applies to road traffic.

I would suspect that sign would not hold up in court.
Ron, do you feel like a battle? Let the SBL or ABC know about it. Then stand back. Waaaay back.

i think it may be a legit "no bike" sign. the other day i saw a cyclist get pulled over by a cop because he was riding on this road with no shoulder. it is a scary road even for cars, because the lanes are very narrow and there is no shoulder. at first when i saw him i thought he was crazy cuz i would never ride anywhere near that road... but then i saw the cop and felt a bit reassured cuz really no bikes should be riding on that road. if you look at that pic, there's no shoulder, and the right lane is a right turn lane. the danger would be in a biker who wants to go straight with a car behind him who wants to turn right.
i know you guys like to quote that uniform vehicle code all the time, but really, there are some cases where it would be safer for both rider and driver to ban bicycles from certain roads.

I agree, as long as the cyclist uses his head and remains on the edge of the straight lane, there is no danger from cars going straight or turning. Really, people need to be informed when riding or driving and make good choices.
I watched a cyclist this morning take a right turn lane at a 3 way stop and loop around the back of the oncoming lane between 2 cars to avoid the stop sign. He endangered his own life obviously, but his confusing and dangerous lane changes also endangered drivers. Its no wonder some people hate us. He could easily ridden to the stop sign, stopped and taken his turn thru the intersection. Putz. Thats why some municipalities put up no bikes allowed signs.

The only "no bikes" signs I see are in the Kroger parking lot. It also bans skateboards.
Ya, I sometimes go shopping on my skateboard.
This is pure junk. The signs should really read, "no cars." The cars are what make it dangerous. Of course, they are trying to protect us "ignorant" cyclists who don't have the sense to stay off "their" roads.
Did I mention that none of the people trying to "protect" us cyclists with these signs have actually ridden a bike in the last 15 years?
No offense to you, deliriou5, but I hate these signs. I'd just as soon have a sign that said I couldn't pee in the bathroom.

ditto that remark about drivers and THEIR roads...one of the local roads here does a sharp and short "s" as it goes under some train tracks. The people here refer to it as the Devil's Elbow because of all the accidents where some bozo is way across the centerline as he comes around and plows into an approaching vehicle.
Last week as I came through the Elbow, keeping as far to my right as possible, none other than my old-coot-of-a-grandfather-in-law came hurtling through the curves in his 9 m.p.g Suburban. He was straddling the center line and had I been another vehicle he would have probably hit me head on.
I just saw him tonight at a Labor Day cookout and he got up and chewed my ass in front of the whole family for being out on the road on that &&%#%$% bike.
To which I simply told him how lucky he'd been that I was on my bike at the time he passed me...had I been in my car he'd be buying me a new one.

Of course, that doesn't stop grumpy (normally old, for some reason) people telling me I've no right to be there. Even if I'm just walking the darned thing!

It's only signs like these around here that provide me with a little bit of comfort after having people yell at me from their cars to "GET OFF THE ROAD".
