Try this. I am sure you can adapt to build a more modern side car.

Chariot trailers mad one a year or two ago. I don't know if they're still making it but it was more for people hauling than stuff hauling.

It would be awesome if someone made a side-car with pedals in it, like a little kid's pedal car, but perhaps with a multigear drivetrain, so the passenger could contribute his or her fair share to getting around.

Obviously a tandem or a tagalong would be more efficient, but one could probably wring some serious style points out of a pedal-able sidecar.

I remember side"hack" bmx races in the late 70s. They were pretty funny.
Pictures-- This is how I got the following pictures:

This is in La Mirada Regional Park, ca 1978. Dude on the side: it was his first ride. Picture taken about 3' in the air. I'm driving

How about something like this ......lol......

ricardo kuhn 10-22-05 03:04 PM

wow...

thanks all those photos are awesome...

the one i'm thinking about is a "Leaner" type,, you know one that is "Dislocated" from the rest of the frame, in basic terms it have a pivot (as oppose to a rigid multi atachment points) and let the bike frame move normally and the sidecar just follows the shape of the ground..

I remenber seeing one somewere but I confese i'm so used to Inventing and imagening things that sometimes i don't know if i saw it "Inside my head" or in the real world..

thanks again for all the fun memories.

When I was a kid, I used to ride in one of these to school. Not exactly sidecar, but front car.
These are all single speed, not too many hilly streets, but heavy payloads often seen. In certain regions, there are hills. The driver needs to get off and push. The drivers do not have advanced comfortable saddle. The top is convertible style, can be closed for sunny, or opened up with full front cover for rainy days! :D

You think those roadies are fast? Let see them pedal in single speed with heavy load and with crappy seat.
