Going “on patrol”
My wife can be very witty. Tonight before heading out for a ride, I had on all my typical night-riding regalia when she asked me if I was going out on patrol. Har de har-har. Here in Long Beach NY, local bike riders often emerge from shadows wearing dark clothes and no lights. Some with even no reflectors. One guy I passed was ambling in a winding fashion, one hand on the handlebar, the other holding a phone to his ear, no helmet. We have the bag men, people who ride around festooned with huge black garbage bags hanging off the bike every which way, filled with cans and bottles. So maybe I do appear like I’m on patrol when I whizz pass other bikers with full reflective vest, reflectors and lighting group on the bike. Must be something to it, because when I passed some officers, they gave me the nod. I must appear to them like the officer brethren who ride around on Police bikes up and down the boardwalk. I figure so long as I can be seen, who cares what the non-illuminated and casual biker thinks. So on patrol I go.
hehe, only joking but you reminded me of the current gum commerical on tv. the commercial has a nerdish type of couple riding with full safety equipment== enough for a war only to be stopped on the trail by a deer. this deer then scares the pants off them because they drop their bikes and run off.
well...at least they have shinny teeth.
being seen is a safety issue, i don't diagree with you. but then i don't ride at nite too much
Or maybe they're just happy because you don't make them think "Should I hassle this person, or just let them get run over?"
