Dude, this topic has been beaten up ad nauseum. STFU.

Check your local laws.

In a car (in some states) you can carry as long as the firearm is either locked, secured, unloaded, out of reach of the driver or some combination of these. Some states require the clip/ ammo be kept a certain distance from the weapon sometimes secured or locked. Often this means the firearm can be locked in the glove box unloaded with the clip in the backseat.

Since a bike has no lockable area out of reach of the driver and no real way to separate gun and ammo, you'd fall under the personal carry laws. Unless you have the gun in a locked case in your backpack (and probably even then) it's considered carrying a concealed firearm.

A side note here. When riding you will not be able to stop at post offices, librarys, schools, any federal building or bar. ! Many states have laws prohibiting the carrying of a concealed firearm while in a bar or consuming alchohol.

This thread would be much more interesting were it to discuss about the mating habits of the elusive Mongolian were-vole

This thread has been done to death. We should just sticky a bunch of threads that keep repeating, a la advocacy & safety forum.

I can help you with your problem Mr. Pirate... ...really, small ones do work just as well as the bigger ones.

Until about 6 years ago I used to carry a gun everywhere, nowadays I just don't see the point - you have more of a chance of getting your ass in a crack from the law than saving it from some situation that is about as likely as lightning striking. First and most effective rule of self-defense - be aware of your surroundings and avoid trouble when you can see it coming. When you can't see it coming - brains and cool are your best defense. Now that I have opened my big mouth, I'll probably get my ass shot by a road-raged commuter on the way home.

If your local carry laws permit it, cool. If you’re in a dangerous area all the time, try to move someplace else. Otherwise, there are less lethal means of protection with sprays, etc.

This is why we have a Search function. So people can go back and reference old posts before beating another dead horse into a gooey paste

If the firearm is not concealed, then it's not concealed carry.

And no, I don't carry.

If you aren't a cop, fed, or other then leave it at home.

Why do you ask? Are you planning to smoke a couple asshat roadies?

bison33 09-29-05 08:29 PM

Geez atlpirate....you are off to a good start in the cycling world. You are not a fan of roadies, your nerves are starting to get to you in the traffic and you want to carry a gun. Remind me to never cycle in Atlanta.

AtlPirate 09-29-05 08:31 PM

well...lets just say i like to be prepared, i just recently returned for Iraq after 12 months, and having a gun with me makes me feel safe. No im not going to pull it out "and bust a cap" but yeah i like the feel of it on me.

CastIron 09-29-05 08:46 PM

You've created a monster. Abondon it by the wayside and run!
Oh, and Thanks!
