I didn't watch fox, or MSNBC. In fact, I did my best to avoid tv most of the day. What will it accomplish? I think everyone has said everything. I think Lewis Lapham had a point, when he said that a lot of the tributes are so mawkish and sappy because no one has anything to say. Unfortunately, everyone feels they have to say something. Why? It's like those victim impact statements in court. They do nothing, achieve nothing, and add nothing. Maybe the best tribute we could have would be to finally stop feeling like we have to say something about it, accept that this has happened, and try to movie on. How about making the world a BETTER place instead of warmongering? Maybe it's time to stop talking about our feelings and do something in that direction.

I took 40 pictures today of the memorial, the ceremony & flags proudly drapping over the glorious buildings behind the WTC. I'll post them up this weekend.
Let's not argue about this anymore. We are all affected by this tragedy in different ways. Most of us have no connection with the events of 9/11/01. Some of us may know someone who lost a love one that day. A few of us may have lost a love one that day. Some may be living close to the Metropolitan area and were living in fear for the past year.
What I'm trying to say is that we all have different personalities, and our opinions/actions will differ from others. Let's not try to get everyone all worked up here. Let's all try and keep our opinions to ourselves and just give respect to those who were DIRECTLY affected by 9/11.

Yes, that's what's bothered me about this in the last year. It seems that another casuality is freedom of speech. I never see them interviewing anyone who says, "hey, what about peace instead of war". Or show footage of peace demonstrations. In fact, the government has actually been monitoring universities, looking for educators who dare to say anything unpatriotic, i.e. in favor of peace or against the war. I have yet to see footage of a peace demonstration. And yet, we hear this constant refrain about america being free and fighting for freedom. You can't have that without free speech.
