Does your LBS have Bike "Sales"

After reading another thread, it dawned on me. OUr one and only LBS here in my town NEVER has sales on bikes. NEVER. Whatever the list is, they charge. That really is a turn off to me. Perhaps that is why i have only bought ONE bike their in my life and the rest have come from Ebay and other shops out of town.

It really sucks cuz they are nice guys and I would like to support them, but I HATE paying suggested retail!

Everyone talks about year end markdowns. Doesn't happen here.

they usually do not post a 'sale' sign or anything.

I think they would still sell an 05 bike for full retail if the buyer is not educated about the year, make and model.

If you asked for a price break becuase the 06's will be coming in soon they would oblige though.

The one we have around here gives you a "discount" from their inflated avertised price on last year models to bring it down to original MSRP, and tries to convince you that they're giving you the best deal in the world. Damn clowns (*cough* ATA *cough*)... There's another one pretty close by; they don't post any "sale" signs in the shop, but will most likely cut you a good deal if you ask for one. Depends on the bike, I suppose, but at least you'll end up paying less than the MSRP - they were willing to sell an '05 Rockhopper for $400, down $100 from MSRP. That was a few months ago, before the '06 models came out.

That is why....
There's really no reason for them to have a sale. There's no competition.

My LBS is a Performance store. Stuff is always on sale, I think because "regular" price is actually "ripoff" price. In fact they have stuff right now on sale where they jacked the price, then put it on sale for the original price. They hadn't replaced all the original tags so I found something "On Sale" $19.97, "Regular" $19.99. Wow! What a deal!

I never see actual sales but a place in town was advertising year-end sales a little while ago and the guy tried to sell me a 2005 Rockhopper for $100 over msrp.

Avoid Bikeology in Los Angeles. The guy quoted me on 3 different bikes (looking for my wife) and each quote was a "sale" quote and each was $100 over msrp. I didn't call him on it because I'm not going to buy a bike from a jerk like that anyway. But just to reiterate, Bikeology, at least the one on Pico, sucks.

The new LBS I have has some nice "sales".

I got some nice Shimano SPD-SL shoes for $20...I checked with two other LBS's and their prices were $140 for the shoes.

Now thats a discount lol

My LBS makes considerable markdowns on their older stock and they are a great deal if it's the bike you want. They also have a yearly anniversary sale where all bikes in stock are 10% off. They don't advertise in the papers; they just send notices to their mailing list and hang a banner above their door. But seems people flock to the shop during the one week they have their sale. It's nice to see them doing so well.
