Riding in the rain

I have a 110km ride coming up this weekend and there are good odds that it will be raining and about 15C/60F(ish).

I'm interested in what other riders do for this type of situation, other than take along a jacket. Does anyone change to special gear or is it just get out and say 'damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead?' Right now I'm planning on the latter....

I carry a water resistant windbreaker when I anticipate a long rainy ride. However, the problem with rain-riding is your feet. It's difficult to keep them dry, so they end up looking like prunes at ride's end.

Fenders, bright reflective rain jacket, knee/leg warmers or rain pants, toe covers or booties, smart-wool socks, ball cap or one of them billed helmet covers, front & rear blinkie lights.

Depending on if it is raining or not when I start, I will either wear my full rain gear or carry it in my Carradice.

And as for raingear, I've got:
-- helmet cover
-- rain jacket
-- rain gloves
-- rain pants
-- booties

In fact, I either wear or carry all that stuff on most of my rides.

If you don't have fenders for your road bike, at least get a set of Race Blades. They install in seconds.

My hands and feet get numb pretty easily when they're wet, so I try to be careful to keep them dry. I've never done any ridiculously long rides, so usually when it rains I just suffer, but you probably want to do something about keeping your hands and feet dry. Raisin toes are ugly.

60 miles in the rain at 60 F? Jacket ... at least put one in your pocket. 60 is cold enough for me to start worrying about hypothermia ... especially if you get a number of flats, or break spokes, etc that would slow you down. I'd grease up the legs too ... sports cream with a fine layer of vaseline over ... gives heat, and repels water (you shave your legs right?).

i've never done 110 km in the rain but from my experience fenders, blinker lights, gloves and waterproof jacket are a must.
