So I laid it down on "that ride"
I finally convinced myself to get out and go riding, of course some idiot in my neighborhood came up the wrong side of the road...long story short I laid it out at about 20mph. It was hitting a kid or a mailbox, I took out a mailbox and destroyed it. I destoryed my brand new sunglasses and did a number on my leg, but we still managed to ride over to my friend's house.

The kid was so scared you could see the sheer look of terror in his face. He had no idea what to do. I have to go tomorrow I guess and explain to some guy how I took out a mailbox and a 4x4 wooden stake. I've been riding regularly, now that fall is in swing and the temps are dropping my rides will start getting longer...We had a good ride today aside from the fact that my shoulder and leg are so sore now I can't move for crap.

I got a little road rash myself so I can literally feel your pain, altough it looks like you got it worse. I wasn't paying enough attention and a my wheel got stuck in a crack in the road. I went down but I was going more than 15 mph...

those are scars to wear with honor. Wimpy roadies get bloodied by falling over. You took out a mailbox.
How'd the bike fare?

Bike is fine, I laid it down on the brake side, scuffed my already beat to hell candy pedals, and scraped up the already abused headlight some more. Otherwise everything appears fine, possibly a bit of paint damage, it survived the other 17 miles without issue.

I'm so incredibly sore today it's surprising me. My left arm cannot lift more than about 8lb, moving my laptop requires some thought before I just move it. My leg is still sore and burns slightly on occassion. My shoulder is totally screwed for the time being I called out of work

Ah, that "morning after" feel...
Keep moving man, don't let it cramp up on ya or you'll take longer to recover! Don't over do it, just stretch it out slowly so that you don't get into a rigor. You should go grab a shot of where the mailbox used to be when you feel better.

Man, that was a courageous act!!! Really was. You did something that was risky and took balls and, in the end, probably saved a lot more damage to both you and the kid. Better a mailbox than a kid.
My hat's off to you PWRDbyTRD. Hope you heal up nicely.

I will take some pix when I get a chance to go home, i'm still over at my friend's house. Amusingly I can still ride because of how my arm is positioned, but raising it up kills me.

Glad to hear the Kona is ok. Hopefully your shoulder is just bruised and sore. Hears to a quick recovery, man.

Lays down his bike at 20mph, takes out a mailbox, and keeps riding ...

Laying it out means the bike basically ends up laid down...you laid it out, you crashed, however you want to phrase it. I did it at 20mph because cryogenic was in front of me and we were doing 25mph right before the incident happened. and I got a good handful of brake, but I don't stop on a dime. Anyways, I'm survivin', I'm getting better, here is a better pic.

How is this done at 20 MPH? The same as at 5 MPH, but with much more momentum to keep you going.
Laying a bike down results in a rash most of the time. In TRD's situation, he had a mailbox and post to break his fall. OUCH!

I spoke with the guy who owned the mailbox, it was a metal type mailbox post and arm. I broke the weld and the bracket holding the mailbox on. We're going to get a damage estimate tomorrow I guess. Kid or Mailbox.....I'm 425lb son, I would have seriously hurt that kid, more than I hurt myself I'm sure.
