any creative ideas for a trashed AL frame?
I've got C'dale with a cracked rear derailleur hanger. It doesn't have a replaceable dropout. I've thought about doing a hackjob track end conversion to ride it as a single speed. The hackjob I'm thinking of involves taking an aluminium plate, cutting/filing it to make some track ends, and then bolting it onto the C'dale dropouts. I was thinking of filing down the sides of the dropout area to thin them out before slapping my homemade track ends on it so that I don't have these massively thick drop outs that'll require a long axel. Thoughts?
I just don't feel like putting it out in the trash just yet. Any artists out there with creative ideas on what to do with it?

don't have any experience with track ends or fixed gear bikes... but, i'm sure you could easily sell that frame to someone wanting a fixed gear bike. some money is better than no money.
either way... good luck

Cut about 18 inches of top tube out of it, wrap the piece of top tube with black electrical tape, mount it on the top tube of your current bike where it is readily at hand and voila! you have the perfect tool for dealing with dogs and drivers that are unleashed and aggresive. With practice you'll be able to take out the tail light, front and rear windscreens, and headlight as you ride by (braveheart style).... Go forth and collect trophy dents on it.

Make a rear wheel truing stand with the rear half, make a front wheel truing stand with the forks. That's what I did with an old steel frame that was past its use by date.

FYI, Cannondale sells a hanger replacement (yes, even for the cast, non-replaceable hangers). You just file off the old one & bolt on the new. The frame then works fine!

Slice it thin crosswise and make a few aluminum crush washers.

A decent welder will be able to do anything you want with it. I know a good guy... although you probably aren't going to want to come over here to the east coast just to get your frame fixed .
