Messenger Bag...My experience

I bought a Chrome Metropolitan and quite frankly was a bit leary to use it for a while. It seemed heavy and when I put in some books and other stuff it seemed uncomfortable and too bulky when I put it on in my house. I considered selling it but today I decided to use it and see what happened. I loaded it with books, tools, some personal items AND my full Camelbak waist pack (1.4L) inside the bag. (Not a case of beer but still not light.)

It was amazing to me that as soon as I got on the bike the bag suddenly became amazingly comfortable and during my ride (about 20 miles round trip), rolling with some small hills and long inclines, the only time I felt the bag was when I thought about it. With the stabalizer strap tightened, there was no movement whatsoever. It's now a few hours later and my shoulder has no soreness or any adverse effects.

I wish I had tried the bag a while ago.

I bought a Chrome Metropolis at the Chrome store (just around the corner from where I live) this morning. I also have small, medium and large Timbuk2 bags that I have had several years. I think all of them work better with a decent sized load in them. They feel kind of awkward when they are empty or near-empty, but with a load they settle down and stabilize nicely.

I wish the Chrome had a strap for a blinky though.

One tip... if you have a mix of hard and soft items in the bag, try to arrange it so the soft stuff is against your back. Hard stuff poking into your back makes messenger bags real uncomfortable!
