Bicycling is more fun than eating a hot peanutbutter and banana sandwich in the sunshine on a cold winter day.

darn it, you stole mine Huehue!

Of course, the high-wheel bikes of the time were a little ungainly and awkward, so learning how to ride one was something to be proud of.

"To be a cyclist is to be a student of pain....at cycling's core lies pain, hard and bitter as the pit inside a juicy peach. It doesn't matter if you're sprinting for an Olympic medal, a town sign, a trailhead, or the rest stop with the homemade brownies. If you never confront pain, you're missing the essence of the sport. Without pain, there's no adversity. Without adversity, no challenge. Without challenge, no improvement. No improvement, no sense of accomplishment and no deep-down joy. Might as well be playing Tiddly-Winks."

OK OK, it's not exactly a quote, but here're the Four Rules of Biking I learned as a wee barne, at my pappy's knee as t'were.

The Rules:

1. Eat before you're hungry,
2. Drink before you're thirsty,
3. Downshift before you have to,
4. Never refuse sex.

Try the book, "The Quotable Cyclist" by Bill Strickland. It is loaded with, you guessed it, great quotes.

Bill Nye, the Science Guy is so cool . He was able to promote bicycling on his TV show without ever saying a word about bicycling.

I also have a quote, but it is my quote. I put it on all my shirts, and have it on my web page. “I ride for me.”

My tagline, which was originally penned by Mark Twain. I mean to put this alongside, in case anyone mistakenly thought that I was smart enough to think of it, but never got around to adding it in...

I almost posted that quote but then I figured it'd be best posted by an actual fixed gear rider

What a depressing (admittedly good, though) book. Serves me right, I guess. I should have known better after reading Old Man and the Sea.
