I had my first crash!!!

Hello people, I crashed my bike for the first time yesterday! I've had my bike (Bianchi Spillo) for about 6 months, and, umm, forgot to unclip my shoes from the pedals, and tipped over right in front of a pedestrian!

no damage done, to either bike or rider, but I did feel quite silly.

I'm interested to hear all your stories about first crashes on your bike(s) too, so feel free to share your stories with us all.

I learned to ride when I was 4 years old. How the heck am I supposed to remember? I probably crashed every five seconds. All I know is me knees and elbows look like elephant skin now.

My first crash ever was the first time I successfully balanced a two wheeler back when I was a toddler. I could go straight but couldn't turn, so I went right into a gutter!

My first clipless crash, I was climbing and ran out of steam. I flopped over right as a schoolbus full of kids was going by

I haven't had a significant crash for a while...

My friend on the other hand has. He fallen a few times at a rea dlight when he can't unclip. Then another time he was flying through some traffic in the city, and a gutter was covered in leaves.... He ate it, some people saw...

Good times

My first...spill? Oh, that would probably have been the first time I tried to pop a wheelie with my Columbia "Cheapo" Sting-Ray clone.

I had a bad crash on christmas eve. I was standing up riding, and right when I was about to push my right leg down the chain came off. My foot went down so hard I lost my balance, I twisted the handlebars by accident, anyways I was going down, and I hit the grooved [weird] pavement. and I almost fainted after seeing the blood poring from my left elbow and some from my right knuckle and my right arm. After I made it walking home I bandaged up, and after looking over my bike the bike must of flipped over, by the scrapes on the brake levers. No broken bones and by christmas I was riding again this was my first really bad crash.

I did a sideways face plant going at 30kph after touching wheels with my buddy in front. That sucked, very noob mistake.

I was riding the advanced loop on my favorite MTB trail and quite proud of myself for not having any incidents when I came out of a 4 foot dip and a tree root reached out a grabbed my front wheel. I swear! Well I fell off the bike, then the tree root grabbed my knee right at the joint with the shin bone. My freind told me he learned a few new swear words from me that day. Would you believe, the tree had the nerve to stand there like it didn't do anything. I hate it when that happens.

This last september we were at an RC car race and while waiting I decidesdto ride my bike around the mall parking lot. I was just learing to use toe clips at this time. The announcer called for the racers to sign up, so I rode my bike over and jump the curb. As I was coming to a stop near the sign up table, I pulled my right foot out and put it on the ground. Much to my suprise, I found myself falling to my left. While falling, the release to my right prosthetic foot got caught in the aluminum bottle cage. This released my prosthetic and sent it flying a good foot or better away.

As I looked up an older couple was standing there with their jaws dropped looking in horror. My friend Scooter, who retrieved my leg, and I were laughing our butts off.

That's not a crash, that's a dismount (albeit using the less-preferred alternative technique). To crash you have to be moving.

First Crash - got hooked in the little one's - all I remember is asking Mom why it hurt so much as I didn't understand. Thank god it was not a permanent injury.
had to be 3 or 4.

Welcome to the horizontal track stand club.

Hmmm. I think that was my last...uhhh...unplanned pavement contact too. Just two days after I installed my new clipless system.

When I was a wee kid I had quite a few crashes. I can not remember any particulars.
As of late I have not had any of note. I've had several forced dismounts. One I was riding in a rut between ice and exited the rut onto the ice. I was loosing control while going slow and jumped forward to a standing position above my crosstube. Later that morning I was proceeding quite fast down a steep hill and noticed snowpack ahead. Tried to slow down and ended of doing a 180. Then tipped over into a snow filled field. All in slow motion. I found that one oddly comical and was chuckling about it for a few hrs.

I endo'd and did a faceplant last Thursday that knocked me out. Went to the ER for a CAT scan but they didn't find anything wrong and released me.

BTW - If you're ever in NYC and need to go to the ER, go the Bellevue. You'll wait a while, but it seems all the ER docs are young, good looking women.

Aw, heck. I fell over four times, semi-unclipped, all in front of cycling buddies.
Luckily I always land on my sitting muscle.

My silliest crash was when I slipped on some algae in the middle of the desert on a 100 degree plus day.

Yeah, I have to agree with DCCommute. As humiliating as it was, it isn't a crash.

It was bad form, but you'll back on it and laugh after you've had a real crash.

My first one was over the bars at about 30mph. Messy.
