Specialized Sirrus or Trek FX Series
Went to the LBS today and test rode the Trek Pilot 1.0, 7.3 FX and 7.5 FX. I must admit I liked the 7.5 FX the best. It seemed to be more responsive and I totally disliked the shifters on the Pilot. Not as comfortable a ride either. I really wanted to test the Specialized Sirrus but they didn't have any. Does anyone have a base Sirrus, Sirrus Sport or Sirrus Comp and can compare them to the Trek 7.5 FX?

Don't have one but did a ride last year with the Cirrus bikes being ridden. I was impressed that each of these riders on the Cirrus had come to their choice independantly. Experienced riders that knew what to look for- had the test rides and bought. I can assure you that these bikes performed well. I was going to cadge a ride on one but no-one would swop with me on the Tandem.
Now onto A PERSONAL PREFERENCE, I have not been impressed with Trek for several years now. Good basic bike, but have too much in-house equipment that I do not like and do not have that little bit extra that the Specialised Cirrus has.
Only thing from your point of view is the test ride- That will tell you which is the bike for you.

I test rode the Sirrus and the Sirrus responds more like a road bike than the FX series. I purchased the Trek FX because it is more like a touring bike.

I have ridden the 7.3 as well as the Sirrus. I have chosen to buy option 3. None of the above. The 7.3 felt slow, I pedaled like mad and felt that I was doing maybe 30kph. The Sirrus absorbed bumps well (cushy seat) but beware if you want to purchase this bike sight unseen. The pictures you see in the brochures and on the web make this bike look good. In real life....... it's not. Granted it's not the most expensive bike out there (or even close) but it's also not a Walmart special, and this bike just LOOKED cheap. The stem looked like it belonged on something different, something cheaper, something kmart... The shifters annoyed me as until I rode this bike I thought they were pretty much the same... not in this case as I had to change hand positions to downshift.
Good News! It really made my bicycle purchasing decision easy. I'm buying my Norco this Saturday
