Stuck in California ... no bike .... snif!
Since the 26th I've been bikeless because a trip to California - family emergency - and I am going into severe withdrawal. There are a TON of hills here near Mount Baldy, but no bike.
I've been enjoying the joys and tribulations of burning gas on the motorcycles as well in the car on my 50 mile commute to L.A. to visit the old man to the hospital.
Very little cycling commuters around the l.a. area, and the distances are insane! But I also have seen some people riding around Sunset in very flashy bikes -odd - and a hobo with a two part articulation bike trailer. But overall not that many cycle commuters, or at least they must be pretty spreaded out in the enourmous area.
Just my impressions from living a longish time in a small town.

Check out craigslist.com. Plenty of used high-quality ex-race bikes for dirt cheap. You can even buy two and combined to make a darn good bike.
