what does the Mormon bicyclist do? How does a morality bound cyclist pedal in Salt Lake? Where do the sacred undergarments go? Is there 'Maroni' brand cycle wear? Are there sports exeptions to the S.U., like the Mormon beer drinking exemption (If another mormon doesn't see you....)

He/She rides a recumbent! Seriously though, Danny Ainge (famous Mormon Basketball player) obviously wasn't wearing when he played basketball for the Suns so apparently there are exceptions (swimming would be a real drag if there weren't).

OK. Listen up all you newbs and panty-wearers. For the purposes of riding any kind of distance, there is simply no more comfortable, practical way to dress than in padded, lycra bicycle shorts. And when you wear padded, lycra bicycle shorts, you must not, under any circumstances, for any reason, wear underwear under them. The chamois goes next to your ass with nothing in between. Got it?
Underwear belongs in the budoir, not on the bike.

Buncha big babies... I wear padded bibs now, but I rode many the trail in nothing more than a pair of swim trunks with the built in liner. My junk stayed put, no chafing, and other than the normal sore butt on the first and second rides of the season, I am no worse for the wear.
Cycling shorts make life a little more enjoyable, but to say they are a non-negotiable requirement is just plain silly.

Maybe I'm missing something here - one thing that would help is if people were clear about the type of bike they were riding.
When I rode a comfort bike, I work regular shorts and underwear. Even did a century, though that did create some problems.
But when I went to a road bike, it would bother me almost immediately. I'd much rather be able to wear regular clothes so that if I want to ride, I could just jump on the bike and go, but it just doesn't work with my road bike.
If some of you are talking about riding lots of miles with a road bike and regular clothes, I'm wondering how you do it without problems.

well, you've got to have the right bike, the right clothes, and the right saddle for you.
But it's ALL about the Brooks!

I've done 2 metric centuries so far on this saddle:
https://biketechmiami.com/site/itemdetails.cfm?ID=663
...with no real discomfort. I wore running shorts with an integral brief. Maybe I'm just an insensitive brute.
A Brooks is on my "2nd tier wishlist," though.
My bike's an MTB rigid, but that's essentially a road saddle, isn't it? Anyway, are road bikes that much less comfortable than other bikes? Back when the world was young, I used to ride half centuries (and longer sometimes) with no problems on a Schwinn Varsity with a stock seat, wearing stuff like cutoff jeans -- but I was enen more of an insensitive brute then....
