breakfast - Protein shake with granola bar OR eggs and hashbrowns
Lunch - (can be anything as it is served through work)
snack - (fruit)
Dinner - (once again anything but usually between 500 and 750 calories - chicken, beef or fish for SURE)
snack - (fruit OR protein shake)
When in peak condition or being a gym rat I throw in an extra meal in between break and lunch. I ALWAYS consume 30 to 50g protein per meal if not more.
I avoid break, and most carbs except for essential carbs for athletics.

I eat pretty much the same:
Breakfast: Protien Shake and 3 or 4 Wheet Bix
Morning Tea: Protien Shake
Lunch: Chicken and Vegies
Post Workout: Protien Shake
Dinner: Lean Meat and Vegies
I try to aviod any processed foods like bread and pasta and anything starchy. I prefer to get my carbs from fresh vegies.

Protein shakes are a staple in my diet. I was even using them when I wasn't working out at all.

Your body uses more calories to digest a gram of protein rather than a gram of carbs, even more if it is solid food (chicken, tuna), but make sure that you keep your proportions even, eg 40% carbs, 40% protien and 20% fat (good fats). Protein is essential especially after a hard work out on the bike or in the gym to help your muscles recover and rebuild.

I'll agree with serg. Protein is the best thing to eat as long as your calories are ok.
Also make sure you aren't referring to a weight gainer. There is a MASSIVE different between a weight gainer and a protein shake.

Your right, there is a massive difference in Weight Gainers and "Protein" shakes. Weight Gainers have enourmous amounts of carbs and calories. I use a whey protein with a small amount of carbs (8-10g) per serving that also has 3g of glutamine. The glutamine really helps with my recovery and reduces the sorness after a hard workout.

Breakfast: lucky charms with skim milk
lunch: peanut butter and jelly
snack: fig newtons
dinner: peanut butter and jelly
late snack: lucky charms with skim milk
I think I may need to change my diet up a little bit. I bonk easily. I'm a poor college student though so sandwiches are cheap. I also notice that I go through peanut butter very quickly.

0730: Porridge or cereal, cup of coffee.
1030: Breakfast bar.
1200: Sandwich. Often cheese and something, occasionally other stuff.
Afternoon: Whatever biscuits/cakes/doughnuts we've got in at work. (Sometimes we have apples and bananas too!)
1930: Dinner. Whatever meat I've bought this week made into something I think will be tasty. Quite a lot of turkey, sometimes bacon! Often a glass of orange juice or a beer.
Not a protein shake in sight!

1st meal: 5 or 6 large sourdough pretzels, 8 oz. chili beans, 3 steamed carrots, 3 oz. albacore tuna, banana, 6 or so prunes, apple or pear
2nd meal: pretty much the same as 1st but steamed broccoli instead of carrots
3rd meal 1/3 box (25.5 oz.) raisin bran, prunes, banana, apple or pear
Also take a multi vitamin and drink at least a gallon of water a day. In the summer 2 gallons of water easy.

Gosh you all are a healthy bunch. I've reached the age where the benefits of good eating are more than counter balanced by the first 30 years of bad eating so my motivation to change is low. Breakfast: 2 or 3 cups of coffee, a multivitamin, 400 U vitamin E, 400 U Folic Acid, 750 mg Glucosamine, 600 mg Chondroitin Sulfate, 500 mg MSM. Lunch: peanut butter on whole wheat bread, maybe a pepper or carrot, maybe an apple, 500 mg calcium supplement. Evening browsing period: bean soup, bread of some kind, some vegetable (kale is my favorite), a bowl of oatmeal, a yogurt, and just before bed a cup of coco in the winter.
Week-ends some pop-corn will fit in there someplace.

If I dont make the 05:30 call, its 06:00, and well Toasted bagel, or bread with peanut butter
08:00 Coffee, usually large.
10:00 large coffee,
12:00 if Im lucky, Peanut butter and jelly, if not so lucky, peanut butter.... maybe a banna or apple, 12:1
If Im really unlucky, some sort of burger or soup if I can find it Re: the not getting out of bed early enough to make lunch / breakfast...
between 14:00 and 15:00 large coffee.
between 17:00 and 18:00 coffee for the drive home
