How strict are you with your diet?

This is a follow up on my last post,

What do you eat in a normal day?

How strict are you all with your diet? Is what you eat in one day what you eat everyday?


I seem to be swaying back and forth on my diet. And as a result, im putting on wieght. This is also b/c i didnt bike for 2 weeks b/c the only thing in my closet was shorts and shortsleeve t-shirts.

I've been pretty damn good about my diet all summer (following the renowned nutritionist Dr. Willet's food pyramid). But, this last week my biggest fears have materialized... while watching the world series, I was drinking beer every night! I caught myself spinning into my binge drinking couch potatoed winter hybernation and today, I'm back on track! No more alcohol for a while... Winter is really a difficult time for me. By 5pm it's dark, and it's cold, and I'm lazy, and the TV is on when I get home, and it sure sounds nice to chillout on the couch in front of the fire with a glass of zinfandel! I'm really going to have to sacrifice and strive to make it through the winter while sticking to my diet and training program. I've got to incorporate the gym into my routine as well.

With the onset of earlier darkness and cooler temperatures and lots of rain (it's raining right now - has been all day ) I haven't been riding as much as I hoped. Consequently I have put on a few pounds thanks to my mid-morning snack(s).
I eat breakfast about 6:30-7:00 and lunch at 1:00, so would have a granola bar or some "high" calorie snack about 10:30-11:00. I've had to cut out the snack since my riding has dropped significantly.
Riding the trainer just doesn't provide the same calorie and fat burning workout as riding on the road.


<edit> Forgot to mention that I sit in front of a computer for 8 hours a day. </edit>

Diabetes forces me to stick pretty close, especially when counting carbs. I do however, occasionally cheat a little, but always with fat or protien. I don't want to chance high sugars.

This will seem silly to most people but I exercise so I don't have to give a damn about what I eat. Oddly enough, once I started exercising my diet changed completely.

Personally I'm horrible where my diet is concerned. (I do eat plenty of veggies, fruit, meat, whole grains etc.) but I just can't steer away from ice cream and various other sweets. (All in excess of course, especially the ice cream!). But at 11% body fat who cares...

The one big positive is that while I am training, my alcohol consumption pretty much goes down to zero.

Very, Very, Very strict. Donuts and coffee only, with Ben and Jerry's on the side. For quick energy, Hot Tamales. For the occaisional nutrition(If donuts and coffe isn't nutritious enough) I'll have two footlong subs loaded with all the goodies, and of course, to wash all that down the one and only Mt Dew.

Oh yeah, a keg of beer every other month, and a 12-pack on weekends.

I'm shooting for the heavy weights next year!!!!

I don't eat meat. I don't consume alcohol. I don't eat at "regular" mealtimes (I only eat when I'm hungry).

Aside from the above, when I am hungry, I eat large amounts of everything else.
