Hehe...that's pretty funny. But he is right, it does make you think. For example:
How to do it quickly and easily... Having watched people successfully lose weight, I've news for you lady: it ain't easy and it ain't quick, but it's still probably worth it. I have to wonder how many people on some level consider obesity a disease one "catches" as the article jokingly suggests.
"We used to think obesity was a condition that only affected people with glandular problems, but health officials are now seeing just how widespread the epidemic is," Hampton said. "There's a myth that obese people don't want to change. They do—they just lack the information about how to do it quickly and easily."

The Onion is a satire site. They make up the news they report, like the National Enquirer et al. Obesity is not something you "catch" like one would a cold.
https://www.theonion.com/content/node/31214 <-- bad language warning, but a prime example of one of their "news" articles.

I am very much aware that this is not a real credible news source, my point is what if it was? And just how far off from the truth is this article in the first place?

Unlike the national enquirer, the onion's funny.
Plus they did predict the 5 bladed shaver heh.
The sad part is, a lot of people DO treat obesity as a disease. Kind of like how being stupid is also a disease according to a lot of people. Its scary how real the article seems even though those weren't the intentions.

I agree, they can be a hoot, I'm still trying to find some of those x-ray pills. Sorry ReptileBlades, your op sounded to me like you were a believer. Didn't mean to condescend.

One of my favorite articles in The Onion was on Intelligent Falling, since Gravity is really just a theory, and it's obvious that there must be a higher power that allows us to fall.

I was infected by obesity--probably around age 25 or so. I caught it from an LTR (long-term relationship) where I became dumb and happy, too. I remained infected up until age 40, when finally after three broken relationships, I became miserable and horny.
Here's the before and after:

While we're on the topic of spelling, can I stop throwing the discus around like the original poster suggested?

Ever notice that some animals like cats and dogs will overeat if there is an endless food supply? We need to hunt, trap and chase down our food. Or a least climb a tree to get it. *ding* Gotta go, pizza's done.
The onion is funny but almost true this time.

To all the teens and twentysomethings that feel obese people are simply "weak":
Remember what you wrote about twenty years from now when you look in the mirror.
It's certainly not impossible to stay trim and fit as you age, and it's important to do so. I truly hope you stay in the "Fit for Life" club. However, it gets to be quite a struggle.
Just friendly advice.
